Wide places, dramatic skies, distant horizons, and the quiet power of the land. These are photographs of landscapes that made me stop and take notice—sometimes because of the scale, sometimes because of the light, and sometimes simply because something about the place felt worth remembering.

I first passed this scene on my way to an appointment and couldn't stop. There were several horses in the area, but when I returned the others had moved on. This one remained, almost as though it had waited for me. The hills, mountains and clouds give the solitary horse a wonderful sense of depth.
