Seeing Differently Familiar things can look very different when we stop and really look at them. A plant becomes curves and patterns, water becomes light and movement, and weathered wood reveals textures shaped by time. These photographs began with something I recognized, but I was drawn to what I saw when I looked closer. I invite you to look again and see what you may have missed before.
This is a section of the Lavender Pit in Bisbee, Arizona, where chemicals from copper processing were left behind. I almost didn't stop because it didn't seem like a particularly beautiful place for a landscape photograph. But once I began to photograph it, I was mesmerized by the colors and the way the light revealed the textures and marks in the earth. What first seemed unpromising became something I couldn't stop looking at.
